Elias Butler

David Elias Butler is a native Arizonan who has spent a lifetime exploring the remote corners of the Southwest in search of beauty in the land and its people. As an artist he works with both large format film and digital photography in pursuit of fleeting light in wild settings. His inspiration for image-making springs from a belief that this land is precious and deserves to be treated with respect and reverence. Each image from his camera is a call to awaken the human spirit to recognize the fragile diversity of Nature and to advocate for its preservation.

Working for over 20 years as a professional photographer, Elias has established himself with a deep body of work. His images have appeared before Congress as part of national monument campaigns, and has been published extensively in magazines, books and newspapers. As a writer, he is the co-author of the biography Grand Obsession: Harvey Butchart and the Exploration of Grand Canyon, winner of a National Outdoor Book Award.
